Day 10 – Lunch Dates

11 Jan

Some of my favorite moments through the holidays was having lunch dates with the husband. Bandar was at school , her school just shut one week between Christmas and New Year, Praise the Lord ! The husband was working from home and my work allowed for some flexibility around lunch. So he would come pick me up at work and we would head out to different places for lunch , depending on what we were in the mood for.

Bandar loves eating out like we do and does pretty well usually. Nowadays she even likes to sit by herself on one side of a booth and lets us sit together on the other side, though she gives the H strict instructions to not have his arm around me. Well, we just hold hands below the table . Shhh! But that said, going out alone somehow does amazing things for our relationship. This is surprising as we are pretty much joint at the hip in terms of being connected through the day on normal days. We overshare – stuff at work , interactions with other , snacks mid day,  bathroom breaks too ! But somehow these lunches together are the perfect mix of casual and intimate and allow for great conversation – no pressure of getting a sitter and dressing up and choosing the perfect dinner spot.I often found I was able to return to my afternoon at work uber productive after lunch with the husband.

Lunch dates were something we did frequently during the first year of Bandar’s arrival. Our house had a ton of guests to help us with the baby and my patience ran low those few months. I worked two minutes away from.home and the husband had a very relaxed schedule, so we would often both say we had lunch meetings and sneak off in different cars to meet up for lunch. It was so exciting somehow  and let us get closer than ever before.  Sadly now our work schedules allow us to do this only once a year , around the holidays So we have a whole  year to wait for this blissful time again.

I highly recommend lunch dates to new parents  and older parents ( like us !) alike.
