Day 4 – End of the Holiday Season

5 Jan

I have such mixed feelings about tomorrow. Come Monday and we will be back to our normal routines.I am sad to bid goodbye to my favorite season of the year and the special bonding time I had with Bandar for over a month. But I am somewhat excited about this year just because I think we will take some major decisions on our future this year. By this I mean mainly our place of residence. We got back today with our bags and baggage from DC and it is truly super frustrating to take the subway with this much luggage, take subway station stairs instead of elevators as some homeless person or drunken idiot or both have peed in the elevator, walk in the bitter cold to your apartment building and then climb 5 floors to get home,Maybe I am just frustrated with my damaged rib at the moment that didn’t let me do as much heavy lifting as I needed to do today, maybe it is the fact that we enjoyed driving around in cars the last four days and enjoyed a semi-suburban life…I don’t know exactly why my frustration with our living situation is at an all time high today.

Here are my thoughts on our normal life that will resume tomorrow –
.  Bandar hasn’t gone to school since Thanksgiving and I am dreading drop off tomorrow. I took her to her classmate’s birthday party today evening and she was fairly clingy with me at first and took a while to mingle with her friends. Once past the warm up period she enjoyed herself immensely and didn’t want to leave. Does that mean she will be okay at school tomorrow? I really can’t say.

. The husbadoo has been slacking a good bit this week since our return from India. He spent the whole week with us at home, which was great but it means he will go back to terrible hours again tomorrow. He will squeeze in research work, course work, faculty app work into some 20 waking -working hours and not get enough sleep and spoil his health. He will insist on eating at improper times. Our pantry and fridge are full of unhealthy crap from India – ladoos, chikee, chips, chiwda. Stuff we usually never buy but stuff we hog if around.Stuff neither he nor I have the damn will power to resist.

.I start work in earnest tomorrow. I am on some new project of sorts, so atleast will be challenged for a while and mentally stimulated. That’s not a bad way to start the year at work. I am also back to cooking, cleaning and all that jazz. Menu planning, shopping…the whole thing. I want to fit in some sort of  exercise into my schedule but I am now scared to disobey doctor’s orders about the rib. But my belly fat and  love handles are irritating the crap out of me this week though, so I am browsing ellipticals..seriously this time.

Aah. The same thing I am dreading. I hope new year will be easy on us. And go easy on exercising. I understand the bothering part, but you can get to it when you are all better.

The first week is always the hardest, atleast that I what I believe. Hopefully we will be fine once we get in the groove.
